We’ve all heard about how awesome meditation is for relaxation, but what about it’s power in supporting the manifestation process? Through my years of learning about and experimenting with manifestation I always heard about the power of visualisation (which I agree with by the way – visualisation IS an incredibly powerful tool), but rarely, if ever, did I hear about the role of meditation. Through over ten years of trial and error, figuring out what works (and what doesn’t) with manifestation, I soon discovered meditation is just as powerful as visualisation. So let me fill you in on my top ten reasons why I believe meditation is essential to the manifestation process.
Meditation is great for taming the monkey mind (or as I say, “shutting up the shitty committee”). When we can calm and quieten our mind-chatter we start to gain clarity on what it is we want to envision for our life.
Once we’ve shut up our shitty committee it’s so much easier to start to identify what our truth is. Sometimes, without even being aware of it, we can be basing our manifestations on someone else’s expectations – whether it be a partner’s, family’s, peers’ or societal expectations. When we start to get clarity, we make way for truth, that is, what it is we genuinely want and desire for ourselves, rather than being influenced by expectations, projections and judgements.
Meditation is fantastic for teaching self-compassion. Last year I undertook some self-compassion training with Dr Christopher Germer, author of ‘The Mindful Path to Self-compassion’ and an international leader in the field of self-compassion, and it honestly changed my life. In today’s culture there is such a tough love, “hustle” and “suck it up bit*#” mentality and I had been prescribing to it for years myself. When I learnt self-compassion I realised I could motivate myself with love and encouragement instead of tough love. This completely transformed my way of being and hence how I treat and talk to myself in regards to my manifestation process. I’m now such a fan of self-compassion meditations that I do them regularly for myself and with my clients.
Having acceptance for where you are is an essential step when starting on your manifestation journey. That’s not to say we have to accept that things may be shit and have to just live with it, but more so that we accept what our current reality is so that we can be honest with ourselves about what requires transformation. If we’re stuck in denial about our behaviours, attitudes or our current life situation, then our efforts at trying to manifest what we want are sure to fail. One of my fave quotes ever is “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are”, and so having an honest understanding and acceptance of what you can do, what you have and where you are is incredibly empowering for kicking off your manifestation journey.
5.) RESILIENCE & FAITH
I put resilience and faith together here, because although you can have resilience without faith, having faith gives you a shit-tonne more resilience (in my opinion anyway). Meditating, in the same way as prayer, allows you to connect in with a higher source. When you feel supported and connected to a higher source (spirit, God, The Universe, insert any term you’re comfortable with here) you are likely to be much more resilient when manifesting. There are going to be times during the manifestation process when we need to call on resilience. We might get impatient at times, or worse, completely disheartened. “Why isn’t it working yet?! I may as well just give up! This shit doesn’t work!” – aaaaaaaand so of course this is what happens and you get nada, zip, zilch. But when you can tap into resilience and faith you will have the ability to stay positive and keep working towards the end result regardless of the setbacks along the way – and there will be setbacks (although better to think of them as detours) on this journey because, well, that’s the reality of life.
When I refer to presence I refer to both definitions of presence - ‘the state of being present’ and also ‘the impression that something is present’. (If this is confusing, think of when someone says they still feel someone’s presence even after they’ve died – the person isn’t physically there but their presence can be felt). Meditation teaches presence, being in your body, in the present moment, i.e. the state of being present. But also, when I’m teaching manifestation, I use guided meditations to take clients on journeys that create the impression that their vision of their extraordinary life is already present. This process bridges the gap between the present state and the impression that something is present and allows us to embody a new way of being and has a magical way of moving time and space in our favour to manifest our dreams quicker.
When you’ve been meditating for a while and start to gain clarity and presence, intuition shows up in the same way that truth does. You start to become more in-tune with yourself and this includes becoming aware of your intuition. You start to be able to decipher between what is thought or judgement and what is knowing. And this knowing is mighty handy to have when you’re trying to manifest your ideal life in conjunction with the Universe in the quickest and easiest way possible.
During meditation, (I don’t know how to put this lightly so I won’t), MAGICAL SHIT HAPPENS. Seriously, I have had mind-blowing experiences during meditation (which is why I loved it so much I went on to become a meditation teacher!). Meditation will open your mind to think bigger and more creatively than you ever have before – which is perfect when you’re wanting to create a manifestation journey that is fun and exciting (and of course we ALL want it to be fun and exciting, right?!).
We ALLLLLLLLLLL know that gratitude is rocket-fuel for manifestation. Everyone’s been harping on about gratitude lists for years now (me included). But what about gratitude meditations? I personally find that they are just as good (if not better) for really getting yourself into the space, mindset and feeling of gratitude. (And that’s coming from an avid list writer.)
10.) BALANCE & ALIGNMENT
Meditation creates the conditions for balancing and aligning both the physical and spiritual energy bodies, which lets healing take place and allows us to tap into the field of unlimited possibilities. This one is a biggie I know, and it starts going into the realm of chakras and quantum physics. But the point I’m trying to make is that meditation is good for us in more ways than we can probably even imagine, and it’s got huge manifesting power.
